ORGANIC MEAT

In general
Organic breeding of animals according to the regulation EEC 1804/99 constitutes the base for the production of organic meat from organic livestock breeders of Western Greece.

Meat is a basic component of human 's diet and organic meat constitute consumer 's exit from the alimentary scandals in the livestock-farming as BSE in cows and which have led the consumers to disappointment.

In order to be characterized a meat as organic should:
  1. Be certified from the responsible authority of control for all the process of production, transformation and marketing.
  2. The breeding of animals is based in their welfare.
  3. It emanates from farms in which does not become use of medicines, augmentative factors or other additional matters in the diet of animals
  4. Forages should emanate from organic cultures, without complex fertilizers or pesticides
  5. Forages do not emanate from genetically modified cultures.
The slaughter, standardization and marketing of meat products becomes accordingly with the specifications of the regulation 1804/99.
Process
During the treatment and packing of meat:
  1. Are taken strict measures of hygiene ‘s prevention, so as to be avoided the danger of pollution of products from pathogenic organisms and damaging substances.
  2. Are applied suitable methods of treatment and packing that ensure the fresh picture of the products and do not alter their nutritious value. In general is desirable the disposal of organic products without packing. In other case is preferred the use of recyclable materials.
  3. The packing must bring the name of the producer, the processor or the salesman as well as the name or the code number of the control authority or the organization.
  4. The storage becomes in spaces different from those of conventional products. The marketing of products becomes in closed packing, minus the meats that are sold in shops exclusive sale of biological products.
